Air Scarves is a small company in Pacific Grove, CA, that makes and sells accessory items made from vintage Japanese kimono. You can find our items in retail stores, museum shops and art and craft fairs.

We purchase vintage kimonos from Japan and have them shipped to us in CA. Then we take them apart (a surprisingly laborious process as these kimono are made to stay put together!) and wash 99% of them by hand in soap and water. Then we hang them on the line to dry.

After the fabrics are dry, we take them to the studio and start the task of designing.

Through my work I bring a deep respect for the textile designers of Japan and I believe, in my own way, I honor and pay tribute to these designers. By repurposing and reimagining a discarded item that has lost its luster, I am able to transform it back into an object of beauty, giving it a new life and a new purpose.
